Though the California convertible has grabbed almost all the attention paid to Ferrari in the media recently, the 599 GTB is still just as formidable and attractive as it was the day it hit the streets. For some extremists, however, even a car as superb as the 599 isn’t completely up to scratch.

Common criticisms of the 599 is that the car leans too heavily into corners when pushed to the limits, which in turn reduces turn in and leads to slower lap times. Ferrari engineers have analysed the problem and as they have done with the 575 and 612 before it, the 599 can now be ordered with a new track focused handling package. Called the Handling Grand Turismo Evoluzione (HGTE), the new upgrade was first revealed at March’s Geneva Motor Show and has now been finally tested by the guys at Auto Motor und Sport.

The HGTE package is designed to deliver even sportier, more dynamic driving. The technical modifications introduced include a modified set-up with stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar as well as new calibration settings for the magnetorheological shock absorbers when the manettino is at its sportier settings. The ride height has been lowered, which in turn lowers the car’s centre of gravity. The package also includes specifically optimised tires featuring a compound that offers even better grip.

Furthermore, the car’s electronics have also evolved to ensure even more prompt response to driver commands. The F1 gearbox’s shifts are now even faster in high-performance settings, while a new engine software strategy has improved accelerator response.

The end result is a 0-100km/h time of just 3.7 seconds and a new lap time for Ferrari’s famed Fiorano test track of 1m 26.5s – only 1.5s slower than the lighter and stiffer F430 Scuderia street-legal race car.

From a styling point of view, the HGTE package includes some distinctively sporty exterior and interior features with carbon-fiber widely used throughout the bodywork. The 20in split-rim wheels are new, and are available with a special diamond-cut matte silver finish. The rear diffuser is finished in matte black to underscore the car’s new set-up and highlight the chromed tail pipes. The cabin is sportier, too, thanks to a mix of full-grain leather, black Alcantara and carbon-fiber trim. Embroidered in contrasting stitching on the headrest are a Prancing Horse and the words “Handling GTE”.

Mazda6

That, in turn, produced four winning candidates subsequently narrowed to just two theme models which graduated to full-size hard models that could be further evaluated in clinics held in 2005.

One design was deemed to be advanced, youthful, and distinctive while the other was received as a beautiful expression with quiet elegance.

After some consideration, the conclusion was that, while conservative participants admired the beautiful car, the advanced and distinctive design was far more suitable for the risk takers to whom the new MAZDA6 was targeted. The more aggressive design won the final selection process and was chosen for additional refinement.

Mazda6

One of the most distinctive features drawn from Mazda’s design portfolio is a front fender reminiscent of the one found on today’s RX-8.

Sculpture that flows from the front fascia, through the headlamp, over the top of the front-wheel opening, and into the side surface ahead of the front door achieves two aims: it accents the importance of wheels to the MAZDA6’s athletic character and it visually trims the length of the front overhang.

The graceful S-curve that flows smoothly from the highest point of the roof to the subtle lip at the very end of the decklid’s top surface and the rear glass that melts into the decklid give the MAZDA6 an exceptionally sleek appearance from almost any angle.

Mazda6

The harmony of sharp edges with richly curved surfaces adds to the MAZDA6’s visual value. Powerful wheel arches, attached like wings to an airplane’s fuselage, create an athletic stance and instill a dynamic character.

Mazda6

Large areas of both doors are perfectly smooth and taut to exhibit blank-space beauty. Fine attention to detail is clearly evident in the taillamps’ intricate LED components. All lamps nestle jewel-like within their surrounding surfaces.

Manufacturing and cost-analysis experts took issue with a few aspects of the MAZDA6’s exterior design. The polished chrome side-window trim and the highly detailed dual exhaust tips were quite expensive.

The hood-to-fender parting line and the juncture of the hood to the grille, front fascia, and front fender caused anxiety among manufacturing and quality personnel. Just as with the RX-8, the ambitiously sculpted front fenders could not be made with conventional stamping methods.

Sato-san’s team stuck by its guns and refused compromises that would diminish their design. In the end, ingenuity and team work delivered the necessary miracles and the MAZDA6 proceeded to production as conceived without sacrifices.

Mazda6 Interior

Car Mazda Interrior Design

While a few distinctive Mazda interior design elements, such as round instruments and a three-spoke steering wheel accompanied by a T-shaped instrument panel, were a given from the start of this design project, new priorities called for an otherwise fresh approach.

"The quality of execution had to be the highest Mazda had ever achieved in any US production. Surface textures, gloss levels, parting lines, and decorative areas all received careful attention."

The interior needed an expansive feeling without losing its focus on fun for the driver combined with comfort and safety for all passengers. To achieve that, a bi-level theme was adopted: a roomy bottom zone with solid and safe upper areas.

A multitude of sketches were soon boiled down to three principal candidates. One featured a floating instrument panel and strict left-right symmetry. The second included a much narrower center console and stack, essentially an evolution of the first-generation MAZDA6. The third execution integrated the center stack with the instrument cluster to strengthen the interior’s dedication to the driver’s needs.

The final design embodies the most successful attributes of the first and third design alternatives. The center area of the instrument panel is a large tilted area that provides excellent functionality to both front-seat occupants.

Mazda6 Center console

Car Mazda Interrior Design

Blacked-out instrument faces with brighter metallic markings, needles, and trim gives the MAZDA6 interior an exquisitely detailed look. Seats are highly refined with soft-look volumes combined with comfortable cushions and highly effective side bolsters. Attractively curved surfaces blend the console into the instrument panel.

Sculpted shapes combined with metallic-looking control panel areas achieve the desired contrast between dignity and celestial beauty. Crisp edges abut gently curved soft surfaces.

Unique patterns and textures give the MAZDA6’s interior a fresh, original appearance. Use of black trim provides a rich, sporty look that’s unprecedented in the mid-size segment.

Mazda6 Steering wheel

Car Mazda Interrior Design

Brightly finished switches in the steering wheel and center stack area mark the interior as a premium execution. High-mounted entertainment system and climate controls enhance functionality.

The entry-level interior benefits from brightly plated metal accents and a choice of black, beige, or gray cloth upholstery with a tasteful weave pattern.

Available Touring-level trim blends tastefully-patterned cloth with leather upholstery and adds a leather steering wheel cover.

The Grand Touring interior uses leather only for upholstery material in a choice of black, beige, or gray tones.

Mazda has a small problem with its rakish, buttoned-down CX-7 crossover. With the 244hp, 2.3-liter turbocharged engine under the hood, the CX-7 delivers on the promise of its sporty styling and nicely tuned chassis. It’s definitely one of the more entertaining crossovers to drive, but that fun comes at a price. With more than 3900 lb to haul around, the tightly wound turbo-four sucks gas like a six. The EPA mpg rating for the all-wheel drive CX-7s is an unremarkable 17/23 city/highway.

2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars

Italian brands The Lavazza GT-R unveiled, Simbol Design has some pictures and specifications for the new super sports car. Simbol Design has created this impressive new V12 supercar producing 620 hp while weighing a mere 2380 lbs. This gives the car an exceptional power to weight ratio of 3.8 lb.
2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars
Simbol Design's Lavazza GTX-R body made of carbon-Kevlar built atop a tubular steel frame. And since German powerplants have emerged as the new crate engine of choice for niche manufacturers from Spyker and Wiesmann to Gumpert and Pagani, the Lavazza packs a BMW-sourced 5.4-liter V12, picking up Lamborghini's tractor-origins mantle with an electro-pneumatic transmission reportedly sourced from a bus. Sources differ on the engine's output – alternately claiming 489 horsepower or 620 – but either way, 0-60 mph times quoted around the four-and-a-half second sound conservative.
The 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R The New Super Sports Cars will be offered in both coupe and roadster versions and will be built in carbon kevlar. This will help the car get its weight down to about 2381 lbs. On the exterior, the 2011 Simbol Design Sports Cars Lavazza GTX-R will get fixed front diverters and rear venturi intakes with adjustable side diverters, an adjustable rear wing, and a roof scoop.
The front of the car may look a little like a Pagani Zonda (or a Zonda on drugs), but the price tag shouldn’t as this car is definitely not fitting into the ranks of the Italian supercars of today. Both coupe and roadster bodystyles are apparently in the works, though there's no word on availability or pricing just yet, but are exclusive to models such as this, you can not expect that the cheap.
